Conversation series – Pixi

Welcome to episode 1 in our Conversation Series, where we hope to introduce you to those who make Junktion tick along!

We have to start of course, at the start – and that’s with Pixi Johnson who dreamed and actioned Junktion into being at its first location in Sturt, and now home in Happy Valley.

Pixi and Trav Johnson of Access The Story & Junktion

Name: Pixi

Role: Manager

Years @ junktion: Almost 8!

Tell us a little bit about what a typical week might look like within the four walls of junktion for you:

Cleaning, sorting, organizing, chatting, creating and drinking coffee

What’s something you’ve really enjoyed experiencing in your time working @ junktion:

Definitely meeting new people and making new friends

Why are you drawn to opshopping/thrifting?

I love a bargain but even more I love re using, re purposing and the idea that something has lived another life and has a story to it

How do you think buying preloved & second hand helps our community?

It’s affordable, enjoyable and gives a sense of achievement when you find that one quirky item or piece of clothing you’ve been looking for or that you didn’t know you needed😂

What’s been your favourite all-time second-hand purchase?

My first pre loved purchase from a store in Blackwood that doesn’t exist anymore, it was called “Revamped” (does anyone remember it?) and they also sold things on consignment.

I found a pair of black patent leather brogue style shoes with a small heel. I tried them on and they “fit like a glove” – it was like they were made especially for me and I just wanted to wear them with everything.

What’s something you hope for junktion in the future?

To continue to be a space for people to retreat in or catch up with friends, a space where people feel at home – id love to also increase the amount of students that we support in the Philippines, currently we assist 10 students to get to school. They are great kids and are doing really well.

After junktion, what’s your favourite second-hand shop?

Hmmmm.. I do love second chances on Diagonal Rd in STURT. Great price point and a great cause! Check out their Facebook page!

You win a dinner with a celebrity of your choosing – who is it and why?

This is a tricky one, it’s hard to choose just one, I mean I wouldn’t want anyone to be disappointed missing out on having dinner with me🤣

But if I had to choose it would be Jamie Oliver because, well, he could cook the food and I do love his style of cooking, have been a fan for years, and even saw him live when I lived in Perth!

Join us next time and meet another valuable member of the team here at Junktion. Don’t forget we are BACK next week with takeaway coffees and sweet treats, and socially distanced preloved bargains!
