In with the old

WELCOME!

It’s another year and we are back on deck as of TOMORROW, Tuesday 14th with our Summer Session hours to help you ring in the last of January before school launches again. We would love to see you over these next two weeks from Tuesday to Friday between the hours of 930am and 1230pm where we will have our usual awesome sweet treats and coffee ready to go.

Before you come and see us, can we share a few little new year thrifty tips with you?

1 – This is the perfect time to declutter and clean out your home or office space or shed and donate to your local op shop! Many op shops go through a clearing out stage of their own over this summer period, so they are ready to receive your new year donations right off the bat. If you find an op shop that isn’t taking donations, try somewhere else or keep them in the back of your car because they will very soon!

2 – Think about things that you might have seen during the Christmas sales that you wanted to get, but didn’t need at the time or couldn’t afford. Sometimes, these are the things that get donated! Yup! People are gifted items that they already own, don’t fit or don’t like and these might be just the thing you have had your eye on! This is the time to look in op shops, as other people are also doing their own clear outs for the new year.

3 – Get your Christmas decorations! Yes, we’re serious. Many op shops put all their Chrissy gear up on display tables to clear out, at heavily discounted prices in the new year because there isn’t always space to store it for the next festive season. This is the time to get your decorations, wrapping paper, gifts tags or ribbons and pack it away at home for December.

4 – Be patient with the op shop staff and volunteers. They have probably been inundated with awesome donations, requests for items and have also wanted their own time off. Start the new year with kindness as you shop second-hand, you never know who might just need your extra grace or patient smile in store.

It’s easy to feel like summer drags on, but it can be a fantastic time to get out into the community and visit local op shops that maybe you haven’t before. Most op shops help fund and support charities and NFP organisations, and aside from us, here are a few that we think are rad and you should drop by while the weather is this good for being out and about!

1 – RSPCA Aberfoyle Park is a cute little shop inside the Hub shopping centre where you can find anything from suitcases to men’s wear to kid’s toys to pet accessories, and their volunteers are friendly and helpful if you’re hunting for something in particular. Plus, when you shop there you know your dollars are going to straight back into the organisation to assist in the care of animals in need.

2 – Seek and Save op shop in St Marys is run by Edwardstown Baptist Church and has that real local op shop feel. Open three days a week, this is another community space that means when you shop here your dollars go directly into community service programs.

3 – Breakthrough Missions op shop also in St Marys is a literal treasure trove of op shop goodness! You could buy a set of tools, a pair of high heels and a book while snatching up the missing piece of your grandma’s crystal punch bowl set that’s been missing for the last thirty years – they have it all!

4 – Goodwill op shop in Blackwood is another local gem, serving up good quality items at low costs to not only make a difference in the community but also in the fight against fast fashion.

We are so excited to be back TOMORROW, and we hope you’ll come and join us for our Summer Sessions as we all settled into another awesome year! We are joyful and expectant as we step into what’s a head – we hope you’ll join us.
