our Philippines connection

When you walk through the Junktion doors and snag yourself a bargain, you may be more generous than you know!

For the last two years AccessTheStory (our parent organisation) has been sponsoring 10 high school students in Cebu, Philippines.  You see, these young people have access to free education, but because they live in a slum their parents can’t afford the transport they need – and if they miss their education, they remain in a treachorous cycle of poverty.

Just over three years ago AccessTheStory’s Director, Trav, visited the Kalunasan slum and heard their stories from a local church leader.  Soon afterwards they hatched a plan to provide a scholarship for 10 students, and the impact on their families over the past 2 years has been amazing.

Next week, Trav is taking his wife Pixi (that’s right, Junktion Pixi!); two of their boys; and 4 other friends with him to connect with the students, and explore how AccessTheStory might increase the reach of this project.

Now, this means Junktion will be closed for three weeks (re-opening on Wednesday the 5th of September) – so we’re sorry about that – but after we return and you bag your next bargain (or sip your next coffee), remember that 10% of anything you spend is helping the kids in Cebu!
